CMJ
We are going to CMJ this October! Also, playing shows on the way there. I will post the dates later today. This will be our second tour, albeit a short one. Exactly how excited am I? (See above)

the "original classic"

grape stems can be saved and used as mood altering jewelry
this little kid holds a shovel up to me and says "i shit myself"
i invite him to garden organically next time
favorites. it depends on the moment. this is not algebra class! things change!
it is not a lie that is the story about a tree growing in a man's lung
living things are, really, everywhere.
where are these huge pipes going? why do they have dials on them? why so much dust?
not even cobwebs creep me out anymore.
not even mummified mice.
just people's problems, because of society.
if you are the guy who has a tree growing in your lung, don't think i mean you.
i think that tree in the lung problem is natural, not societal. uncreepy.
most of the tomatoes are slop now. so far gone that they explode the second you try to pick them up.
their skins just rupture and burst, heavy insides outside now
all over my apron, i stagger back into a stack of broccoli.
some professor i vaguely recognize is shopping carefully carefully.
there are maggots in the walnut skins out at Prairie Hill, and a girl calls them "manics".

gracefully, ungracefully drawn
The caption which accompanied these two images reads "The diagram was used to teach music to the natives"... A statement which, when couched within the original context, (these photos being of Mission San Antonio- in California) passively suggests that the natives had not yet discovered music until the missionaries arrived, laden with culture with which to "educate" the native populations. Music that is unique to individual cultures is unspeakably valuable. So much original, truly unique music that was made by cultures that are now extinct has been lost; traditional songs and rhythms replaced by songs distributed by missionaries, passed down from hymnals, no longer reflective of the unique experience of being particular people with their own mythologies, histories, languages, etc.
